“The trick with the truck”
A big truck as a showpiece on a narrow stand? This is what RDS Electronics requested for the latest edition of Matexpo. And we came up with a smart solution to give this world’s first the exposure it deserved.
At the biennial Matexpo trade fair, RDS meets contractors who want to equip their machinery with electronic tools in order to make the activities on site as safe as possible. As a multi-brand specialist, RDS takes on every challenge, from metres-high tower cranes to flatbeds of a few tonnes. But how can you make this clear on a modest 80m2 stand?
RDS asked Franken to create three product islands: one for all systems that can be mounted on tower cranes, one for the weighing and radar systems used in earthmoving and one in which the innovative Cornereye camera system plays the leading role.
In the stand design, we chose building materials that are very familiar to the Matexpo visitor: wood fibre construction panels, aluminium façade scaffolding and white walls with pencil sketches. The walls symbolised the context of use, the devices themselves, together with the accompanying documentation, were displayed on central, free-standing modules.
The stand’s centre of gravity - and you can take that literally - was the first mirrorless truck, which was presented at Matexpo in world première: the oversized tractor is packed with electronics and gives the driver a realistic picture of everything around the truck.
A big tractor as star of the show obviously comes at a price. Especially when the stand is long and relatively narrow. Franken came up with a clever solution by building the stand partly over the rear part of the truck. This allowed us to kill two birds with one stone: the mirrorless truck in the centre of attention and on top a reception area with bar to catch up high and dry and undisturbed. With a view of the stand and the hustle and bustle in the rest of the hall.
